Dressing stone for planing/dressing whetstones with transverse grooves to absorb abrasion. Both natural and synthetic whetstones become hollow on the usable surface over time during grinding, creating an inward curvature. The dressing stone is used to create or maintain a flat/straight surface. As a second product application, the dressing stone can also be used to rub off grinding sludge from an existing whetstone. When grinding with grinding sludge, grinding is done with what is known as “rolling grain”. With grinding sludge, sharpness can be achieved more quickly and finely with the same grain than with the bare whetstone surface. Which whetstones is the product suitable for? Suitable for Japanese water stones of any grain size as well as softly bound natural stones (e.g. Belgian Brocken/Coticule). Not suitable for Arkansas stones, artificial ceramic stones and diamond grinding plates. Soak the whetstone and dressing stone with sufficient water. Rub the whetstone and dressing stone against each other in circular movements until the desired result is achieved. Keep both stones wet throughout the process.
